Serge Dore Olivier Chanzy Chardonnay
Appellation: Vin de France
Blend: 100% Chardonnay
Born in 1979, OLIVIER CHANZY grew up in the village of Bouzeron, in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. He studied winemaking with Burgundy greats, apprenticing with his father Daniel (who created the Domaine Chanzy) and Aubert de Villaine (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) then traveled the world to learn the trade in different regions (Sancerre, Shenandoah Valley etc.).
In August 2013, he acquired some old facilities in Meursault and began an adventure, renovating buildings, installing new tanks and starting the harvest within a matter of days. As Christy Canterbury MW, states, in The New Face of France: The Seemingly Impossible Rise of Olivier Chanzy, “Olivier Chanzy is quite clearly part of the new generation of “can do” France. His triumphant story is a tale of determination and a dose of good luck”.
This 100% Chardonnay wine is masterfully crafted by Olivier Chanzy in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy. The vine’s roots dig into shallow soils with a dense clay structure over a thin limestone layer at depth. The climate suits Chardonnay perfectly, and these shallow soils allow the wine to evolve and open in bottle. Limestone brings a nice mineral edge, while clay gives volume and roundness. An expressive nose of fresh ripe fruit opens to good balance in the mouth, with freshness, vivacity and mouthwatering acidity.
Fantastic on its own or with fish and seafood.
