SAN FELICE is located in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, a few kilometres from Siena, in the heart of Chianti Classico, and it is owned by Allianz since the late ’70s. Surrounding the tiny medieval hamlet and the winery complex are 140 hectares of vineyards, 80% planted with Sangiovese, a testimony to the commitment of San Felice to the production of Chianti Classico with a manifest bond to its local terroir, as shown by its ‘Il Grigio’ and ‘Poggio Rosso’ wines.
At the same time, San Felice has won recognition as a very innovative producer and committed researcher.
Eloquent examples are its historic wine Vigorello, the precursor to the Supertuscan wines, and Pugnitello, made from the ancient Tuscan grape of the same name, which San Felice re-discovered and experimented with over many years, in collaboration with the University of Florence.
San Felice’s wines are born of passion, experience and the uniqueness of the territories in which they are produced. This combination provides and guarantees of consistent quality and distinctive character.
San Felice spans two outstanding territories: Chianti Classico and Montalcino. One estate for each production area, with vineyards and olive groves whose impeccable “terroir” is enhanced by modern cultivation techniques.
Previously known in the industry as “Vatted” Malt (a term that is still preferred by all at Douglas Laing), “Blended Malt” differs from simply “Blended” Whisky in that it contains no Grain Whisky, and is therefore widely considered a superior category. Our Remarkable Regional Malts (Big Peat from Islay, Scallywag from Speyside, Timorous Beastie from the Highlands and Rock Oyster, displaying the best from the Islands) are Blended Malt Scotch Whiskies, combining the spirit from some of the regions’ finest Distilleries to produce the ultimate territorial tastes of Scotland. If a Single Malt is a violin, you might consider a Blended Malt an entire orchestra.

The San Felice estate is situated right in the heart of Chianti Classico territory. With over 140 hectares of specialized vineyard, about 17,000 olive trees, the majority of the experimental plantations, the Vitiarium, the cellar and the village with its prestigious hotel complex, San Felice is rare, not to say unique, blend of production, science, tourism and culture. The products include the Premium Line, the Il Grigio Line and the San Felice Line.
The Montalcino area has reached the highest peaks of excellence thanks to Brunello. The territory is clearly delimited by valleys and rivers and includes one of the world’s most renowned hills for the production of quality wines.
